Marc Gagnon, a D'Evelyn High School Senior, was presented with this first ever $1,000 scholarship at the May 15, 2019, Senior Banquet held at the Sheraton Denver West Hotel in Lakewood, CO. D'Evelyn Principal Josh Griffin described Marc as a hard working senior who never gives up and who has demonstrated high standards of behavior throughout his high school career. A peek into Marc's approach to education is found in one of his favorite quotes, "Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad."

In Marc's thank you letter to the D'Evelyn Education Foundation, he said the following, in part: "I read about Jamin online and found his life inspiring, especially his contagious energy, willingness to lead, and his optimistic outlook on life. In reading what people had to say about Jamin, the quote that resonated with me most is this one: 'Through it all, his starting point was integrity and sincerity, and it impacted all of our lives. He was a model of consistency and compassion.'" Marc's letter stipulated that "Integrity and sincerity are defining character traits in leaders, and compassion is something we all should learn. I plan to let those traits direct all of my decisions and actions in life, and I hope to serve my community as humbly as Jamin did." Our sincere congratulations to this outstanding young man who will attend the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in the fall to pursue his dream of becoming a metallurgical engineer!
